It depends on the vehicle arrangement, the sailings, the far-end access and the season. Your written quotation carries an estimated window for your own consignment rather than a figure we would have to revise.

Are Finnish flats let without light fittings?

Often, and white goods vary too. Check the listing and get the answer in writing before deciding what to leave behind in London.

Do we need the henkilötunnus first?

You get it by registering once you are there. Because that takes time, collecting and holding in London is a normal sequence on this route.

Is a shared load worth it?

On a route this long, considerably. The trade is that departure follows the vehicle filling and the sailing schedule rather than your calendar.

What about a winter delivery?

Entirely normal, and planned as such. Access, vehicle size and conditions on the final approach are settled before the quotation rather than discovered on the day.

The longest route on this page and the only one that ends with a sea crossing. Finland is reached through the continent and over the Baltic, which makes it a genuinely planned job rather than a long drive with a border in the middle.

Two crossings, a northern winter, and a country where saunas come with the flat and light fittings frequently do not.

Who takes this route from London

Technology and engineering relocations to Helsinki and Espoo, usually on a corporate timetable.
Academic and research moves to Tampere, Turku and Oulu, smaller loads and term-bound dates.
Returning Finnish households leaving London after several years, generally with a full flat.

The road out

M25 to the M20 and the Folkestone shuttle, then the length of the continent to a Baltic sailing — most often from northern Germany or Sweden depending on the schedule and the destination. The choice is made on sailings rather than on the map.

From Calais the E40 runs north-east through Belgium and the Netherlands to the German A1, which carries the load past Bremen and Hamburg. From there either a direct Baltic sailing, or north through Denmark and Sweden on the E45 and E4 to a Gulf of Bothnia crossing. Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa are served from the southern ports; Tampere and Turku follow the motorway network inland.

Customs, and who obtains what

Finland applies the standard transfer-of-residence relief on used household effects. The Finnish system runs on the henkilötunnus — the personal identity code — issued on registration, and Finnish administration is efficient once that number exists and awkward before it does.

What the flat comes with, and what it does not

Finnish rentals follow the Nordic pattern: light fittings are often absent, white goods vary, and a fitted kitchen is usual but not guaranteed. On the other hand a great many buildings include a sauna, which is not a thing you need to bring.

Read the listing carefully and ask the landlord in writing what is included. On a route with two crossings and a long drive, discovering at the far end that you need to buy every ceiling light is an expensive way to find out.

Winter is the other planning input. From late in the year the roads, the sailings and the final approach all behave differently, and a delivery into a Finnish suburb in February is a different job from the same delivery in July. It is established at quotation rather than negotiated in a snowfall.
